Consular Certification at the Embassy of Malaysia in Japan [Apostille acquisition and translation]

When you travel to Malaysia and apply for a visa, you will be asked to submit a copy of your Japanese family register and other documents.

If you submit the Japanese official document as it is to the destination in Malaysia, it will not be accepted.
You will be instructed to "obtain a consular certification from the Malaysian Embassy in Japan.

Malaysia is a non-member of the Hague Convention

If a country is a signatory to the Hague Convention on the Non-Authentication of Foreign Public Documents (the "Non-Authentication Convention"), the document can be submitted to the other country simply by obtaining an apostille, but Malaysia is not a signatory to the Hague Convention.

Therefore, it is necessary to notarize the document according to the following process.

Private document: Obtain official seal confirmation at a notary public → Obtain consular certification at the Embassy of Malaysia in Japan

Official documents can be received after 4 working days from the date of application.
You can apply for the official seal confirmation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs either by mail or at the counter, but you will receive it after 4 business days in both cases.
There is some information on the Internet, such as "if you apply at the counter, you can receive it the next day," but this was the response before the Corona epidemic. Please note that this is old information.

Once the official seal is confirmed, apply for consular certification at the Malaysian Embassy in Japan!

Once you have obtained the official seal confirmation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or a notary public as described above, you must next apply for consular certification at the Embassy of Malaysia in Tokyo, located in Nanpeidai, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo.

The nearest stations are Shibuya, Daikanyama, Naka-Meguro, and Shinsen.
It is located right in the middle of each station.

Enter from the entrance facing the road called Kyu-Yamate-dori.
The front gate opens when a car enters the building, but please note that if you do not press the intercom to enter, you will be stopped by security guards.

Application Hours for Consular Certification at the Embassy of Malaysia in Japan

Applications for consular certification are accepted for three hours from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Applications will not be accepted after 12:00 pm.
No advance appointment is required.

Documents can only be picked up between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
